NGSGM believes that Dorm Parents have a significant impact on students attending our school sessions. The attitude of the Dorm Parents is reflected, many times, in the students, particularly in those students who are attending full time.
Dorm Parents serve at our school on a voluntary basis with no monetary reward; however, there are many rewards, the caring of the students and faculty, participation in the singing and classes when possible, and most of all, seeing the students learn and grow in knowledge and love of Gospel Music. NGSGM Executive Board & Regular Board appreciates the time and effort that volunteers serve as Dorm Parents.
When our school began we had a number of commuting students. Only students out of driving range began staying on campus when it became apparent to many students and parents that this was helpful to the student in being a part of all the activities and in getting to know fellow students. At this time, the majority of the students do stay on campus during the session. The Dorm Parents assist where ever they are needed - sharing responsibility of supervising gym, swimming pool, Student Center, Perimeter of the outside lawn and Dorm Lobby Duty. One of the special rewards is getting to know the students, sharing with them as a Mom, friend or lending a shoulder to cry on when they are homesick or sick and getting the students to bed at night when ‘light’s out’ time comes..
