NORTH GEORGIA SCHOOL OF GOSPEL MUSIC
HOW WAS NGSGM FOUNDED?
The North Georgia School of Gospel Music opened its doors at Young Harris College, Young Harris, Georgia in the summer of 1981 and stayed until 1982. In 1983 NGSGM moved to Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia and we are still there today! Prior to this opening, several people were involved in the preparation of forming this music school. Singers across Georgia were interested in having a music school where students could develop their God given talents. The road has been one of great joy in seeing the students go away with knowledge of music that will stay with them through life.
Meeting were held and lawyers contacted, Articles of Incorporation were developed and By-Laws were completed. NGSGM became into being as a Non-Profit organization. Music would be taught using the shaped-notes and lines & spaces. NGSGM had a desire for students to be able to read music, sing music and write music in whatever position they were in.
NGSGM was originally a three-week’s school, but due to a shorter summer for students that attended school, we became a two-week’s school. We offer classes during the day from 8:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M. Free time is from 3:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M.. All students are required to attend the sight reading singing in Sewell-Plunkett Chapel from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M.. Visitors are welcome to visit this singing. Free time is from 8:30 P.M. until lights out at 11:00 P.M..
